What are the objectives of job evaluation?

Job evaluation is a systematic process of assessing the value of jobs in an organization

The purpose of Job evaluation to plain compensation to employees depending on the types and importance of various job within an organization. Job evaluation is important in order to determine the worth of individual jobs and the compensation to be paid to employees who hold those jobs. This is done to ensure that employees are paid fairly for the work they do.

Here are some of the objectives of job evaluation:

a)      To assess the value of one job in relation to another job.

b)      To build a sound wage structure within an organisation.

c)      To establish sound salary differentials between jobs differentiated on the skills required.

d)      To identify and eliminate salary-related inequities

e)      Job Evaluation is foundation for variable pay such as incentive and bonus.

f)       Maintenance of a consistent career and employee growth policy/guidelines.

g)      To classify jobs within an organisation

h)      It helps in collection of job facts for the purpose of selection, promotions,  task assignments etc

i)        Helps in selection process by mapping a prospective employee  in the job hierarchy

j)        Job classification from job evaluation helps in organizations with active unions so that management and union officials may deal with major and fundamental wage issues during negotiations and grievance meetings.
